About Ubiquiti Hardware
What is a TP-Link Deco Captive Portal?
A TP-Link Deco captive portal is the login or splash page guests see when they connect to a public WiFi network. It typically prompts users to submit their email, phone number, or accept terms before accessing the internet.
While Deco routers don’t have native captive portal or CRM integrations, StayFi bridges the gap by layering a captive portal on top of your existing SSID, collecting guest contact information, and powering remarketing campaigns.
With StayFi Express, your WiFi becomes a proper marketing and engagement tool, and the beautiful thing is that you can create a captive portal without replacing your router or current setup.
How It Works
How a Captive Portal Works with StayFi Express
A captive portal is a gateway between a user’s device and the open internet. When someone connects to your TP-Link Deco network, they are automatically redirected to a splash page. However, Deco does not support native integration for direct connectivity with StayFi; StayFi Express is used as an external device.
StayFi Express plugs into the Deco router via Ethernet to add a Captive Portal to your existing network. Once the user completes the splash page form, providing the required details, the data is securely captured, and internet access is granted.
Your existing Deco network name (SSID) and password remain unchanged when you integrate StayFi Express with your network. That means all your smart devices, including TVs, thermostats, cameras, and locks, stay connected, with no need to reconnect anything.
How StayFi Express Turns Your Deco WiFi into a Marketing Engine
StayFi Express works seamlessly with your existing TP-Link Deco mesh system — no router swaps or hardware changes required. By simply adding the StayFi Express device, you can layer a branded captive portal on top of your Deco network, transforming guest WiFi into a marketing and remarketing engine.
Here’s what you can achieve with StayFi Express + Deco:
1. Plug In StayFi Express
Connect the StayFi Express device to your Deco router via Ethernet. Your SSID and password stay the same, so all your smart devices remain connected.
2. Capture Guest Data
Guests log in through a branded splash page, giving you verified emails, phone numbers, and stay information with every WiFi connection.
3. Automate Guest Remarketing
Use StayFi’s built-in tools (or sync with Mailchimp, HubSpot, or Salesforce) to send automated review requests, upsells, and rebooking offers.
4. Drive More Direct Bookings
Watch as your guest database grows and past visitors return to book directly, reducing OTA dependence and increasing revenue.
How It Helps
Why Integrate StayFi’s Captive Portal with Your TP-Link Deco Setup?
StayFi Express gives short-term rental operators, boutique hotels, parks, campgrounds, and property managers the tools to simplify data collection and elevate the guest experience. By integrating StayFi Express captive portal with your Deco network, you can build a rich database of customer contacts to drive review requests, repeat booking offers, upsell, remarket to long-time users, and offer loyalty programs.
With built-in GDPR consent and customizable terms acceptance, StayFi Express ensures that users accept your terms of service while keeping your network compliant. It also offers a non-invasive setup system without disrupting your existing smart devices: no complex installation, no changing passwords, just smarter guest WiFi.
How to Set Up StayFi Express on TP-Link Deco
StayFi Express is designed for simple installation to help you create an immersive TP-Link Deco captive portal. Here are four seamless steps to set up StayFi Express on your Deco router:
- Connect StayFi Express to the main Deco unit using the Ethernet cable.
- Log in to your StayFi dashboard, go to the Access Points page, and follow the in-app flow to configure your StayFi Express in your TP-Link Deco app. You will need access to the Deco app to complete this step.
- Confirm setup in the StayFi dashboard and activate the device. Afterwards, assign it to your property.
- Guests continue to connect to the WiFi using your existing SSID and password, which will now display a Captive Portal.
Since your existing Deco network name (SSID) and password remain unchanged, there’s no need to reconnect smart TVs, locks, or other devices; the setup takes less than 30 minutes.

Comparing Deco Guest Network vs. StayFi Express
When managing WiFi for vacation rentals, boutique hotels, or any short-term lodging, your choice of captive portal can make a significant impact — not only on guest connectivity, but also on your marketing and revenue potential.
TP-Link Deco offers reliable mesh WiFi coverage and simple network management through its app. However, Deco does not include a built-in branded captive portal nor provide tools for guest data capture or automated marketing.
That’s where StayFi Express comes in. Using your existing Deco network, StayFi adds a fully branded guest login experience, powerful first-party data collection, CRM integration, and automated post-stay marketing flows — all without replacing your Deco hardware.

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers!
Do I need to replace my Deco router to use StayFi Express?
No. StayFi Express works alongside your existing TP-Link Deco network. It simply adds a guest SSID through a small external device. There’s no need to change or replace your router.
Will my smart devices disconnect after adding StayFi Express?
Not at all. Your Deco’s primary SSID and password stay the same, so smart locks, cameras, TVs, and other devices remain online and uninterrupted.
How long does the StayFi Express setup take?
The whole setup process takes less than 30 minutes. StayFi’s support team guides you through the necessary changes in the Deco app and helps activate your device in the dashboard.
Do I need one device per property?
Yes. Each physical property location needs its own StayFi Express unit. However, you can manage them all from one StayFi account.
Can I manage multiple properties from one account?
Absolutely. StayFi was built for multi-property operators. You can create unique branding, guest lists, and campaigns for each location, all from one login.
What settings do I need to adjust on my Deco network?
To set up StayFi Express, you will need to reserve a static IP address, disable IPv6, and configure a custom DNS. If you have a guest network enabled, you will need to turn it off as well. We will provide step-by-step instructions for each step, or we are happy to walk you through the process on a call.
Can I control who accesses my Deco guest WiFi?
Deco lets you control access, but it does not verify identity beyond your settings. You can create a separate guest network with its own password, change that password at any time, and pause or block specific devices from the app. Anyone with the guest credentials can connect, and Deco does not require users to prove who they are.
For enhanced control with Deco and StayFi Express, you can require guests to pass through a branded splash page and enter a valid email or phone number that is checked in real time. You can also set session time limits, bandwidth caps, and device limits. StayFi logs access details and gives you clean guest contact data for follow-up marketing.
